Commercial Roofing Superintendent

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruiting, supervising, training, mentoring and overseeing job performance of Field Managers and Journeymen in order to attract, retain and motivate the most qualified personnel, identifying areas in which additional training is needed thus maximizing the Company’s overall performance.
- Supervises all areas of commercial roofing, Field Managers and Journeymen;
- Interviews and hires personnel for all roofing positions;
- Mentors Field Managers and Journeymen to become better leaders and teachers by helping them become “Big Picture” thinkers;
- Provides feedback and accountability to immediate subordinates and conducts performance reviews.
- Tracking all projects that are in process by administrating labor status reports and project control logs, generating project schedules, and overseeing project in general.
- Facilitates project to include start date, set-up, pre-job (office and job site), field verification and hiring of subcontractors;
- Reviews labor and material costs, quality control, and final inspections;
- Orders all materials in a timely manner;
- Ensures accurate information is given to backlog distribution;
- Ensures projects are completed in accordance with set deadlines and within estimated budget;
- Teaches and develops Field Managers and Journeymen to understand what it takes to get work done accurately and profitably.
- Implementing and enforcing safety and safety incentive programs, and abiding by established safety policies and procedures.
- Instills in all employees DRI’s philosophy regarding safety and management’s support of the safety program;
- Holds Field Managers and Journeymen accountable for enforcing safety policies and procedures by tying compensation to how safely operations are run;
- Implements and enforces the established written safety program by mentoring Field Managers and Journeymen with respect to the importance of safety and point out any unusual safety risks;
- Ensures that we are obeying all State and OSHA laws for reporting purposes.
- Participates in the development of Safety Incentive Programs, reinforces program during job site visits, attends job site safety meetings as often as possible and reviews, with Field Managers and Journeymen, all areas of safety that pertain to each particular job and procedures to follow in the event of an accident or injury.
- Developing a quality ethic among our employees, communicating with the President, the obstacles that are keeping DRI from achieving perfect installations, and maintaining good relations with our customers.
- Reviews the proper material and installation procedures with Field Managers and Journeymen on an on-going basis;
- Walks through the entire process of a quality roof system with the Field Managers and Journeymen, addressing the need to discuss and have employees understand the need for quality assurance and cost control issues;
- On a weekly basis, performs quality control check by walking each roof deck with the foremen (sees all low slope jobs at completion), and does a Quality Control Walk-through with President;
- Communicate with owners and owner’s representatives and coordinate all customer service including scheduling personnel, ordering materials, and verifying paperwork is turned in for invoicing;
- Keeps DRI Commercial customers happy by openly communicating with them and relaying, to the Field Managers and Journeymen, any information or promises made.
- Overseeing job cost performance by reviewing reports and mentoring the Field Managers and Journeymen to micromanage the job cost on every job, always looking at the effects of expenses relative to the bottom line.
- Maximize profitability for every job handled;
- Maintains relationships outside the company with a view to marketing and any other area that might prove beneficial to the company and its goals;
- Keeps abreast of changes, directions, and trends in the industry;
- Reviews daily labor cost reports and weekly budget analysis reports and goes over the reports with the Field Managers and Journeymen as needed, verifying the validity of total squares produced as reported weekly;
- Assists in the continuous study of wages throughout the region;
- Reviews job cost and work in process each month;
- Reviews estimating process;
- Reviews estimated job cost prior to inputting it into the budget;
- Ultimately responsible for ensuring the maximum utilization of our resources through the diligent management thereof.
DESCRIBE THE POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
Personnel Supervised: Field Managers, Journeymen
Decision Making: Can purchase up to $500 for equipment without approval.
Internal Contacts: Contracts Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, Safety
External Contacts: DRI Customers; Field Representatives
Budget Responsibility: Bringing jobs in at or under budget.
Education and Experience Required: Minimum five years in similar position
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements: Microsoft Office; EnterpriseOne.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years in roofing industry.
- Prior Superintendent experience not required.
- Roofer, Foreman, or Field Manager with leadership and management skills.
- Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Email) preferred, but not required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Although not required, Spanish Bi-Lingual is a PLUS!
- Superior oral interpersonal skills.
